VAR flare-up as Feyenoord have a goal ruled out after video replays persuade referee to give Vitesse spot-kick for earlier incident
Technology use sparks fury in Dutch Super Cup - as decision is reversed and replaced ONE MINUTE after ball is put in the net
VIDEO controversy surrounded Feyenoord’s Dutch Super Cup win over Vitesse.
At the start of an incredible two minutes and 25 seconds, Vitesse midfielder Karim El Ahmadi was tripped in the box nine minutes into the second half.
But the referee waved playing on as the reigning Eredivisie champions counter-attacked and scored through Nicolai Jorgensen.
Whistler Danny Makkelie then asked for clarification from the video assistant referee over Vitesse’s penalty appeal and Feyenoord’s goal.
Makkelie went to the pitch-side to watch the replay while many fans shown on TV cameras seemed to enjoy and laugh at the confusion and farcical delay
Almost a minute later - and two minutes and 25 seconds after the foul was made - the goal was chalked off with Vitesse awarded a penalty.
Angry El Ahmadi was booked and Manchester United flop Alex Buttner netted the spot-kick to level Jens Toornstra’s opener.
The game ended 1-1, with Feyenoord triumphing 4-2 in the shootout thanks to the heroics of former Liverpool keeper Brad Jones.
