Dijon 1 Monaco 4: Kylian Mbappe benched while Radamel Falcao scores hat-trick as Ligue 1 champions run riot
Leonardo Jardim took decision to leave Mbappe on the sidelines thinking he was distracted by transfer speculation
TEEN sensation Kylian Mbappe was left watching from the bench as Radamel Falcao scored a hat-trick for Monaco on Sunday.
Leonardo Jardim decided to leave Mbappe on the sidelines for Sunday’s 4-1 demolition of Dijon, believing the youngster to be distracted by interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
But thankfully for the boss, his move did not backfire as Falcao blasted in three terrific goals for the reigning French champions.
The Colombian opened the scoring at the Stade Gaston Gerard in the third minute, latching on to a header from defender Kamil Glik before finishing at close range.
Jemerson arguably scored the pick of the bunch 22 minutes later with a stunning bicycle kick.
And Falcao ensured he had a brace before half-time with a curling effort from the edge of the box in the 37th minute.
Dijon managed to pull one back moments before the break when Wesley Said finished coolly through the legs of Monaco keeper Danijel Subasic.
However, Falcao needed just six minutes of the second half to put the result beyond doubt, with his hat-trick completed by a powerful header to wrap up the three points for Jardim’s side.
Monaco join Lyon, Marseille and Saint-Etienne as the only teams to win their opening two games of the Ligue 1 season.
But the quarter could be joined by PSG providing they beat Guingamp this evening, with world-record signing Neymar making his debut.
