Spurs have been ramping up efforts to sign the 21-year-old Ajax player after apparently agreeing to pay £35million for him.

They have yet to make an incoming summer transfer and are keen to get off the mark.

Sanchez, who played in the the Europa League final defeat to Manchester United, missed Ajax’s match on Saturday in Holland amid claims he’s about to sign for Spurs.

Tottenham are keen to boost their squad in the wake of Kyle Walker's move to Manchester City and Danny Rose's criticism of the club’s transfer policy.

Sanchez can play at right-back or in the centre of defence and is widely regarded as one of the top young defensive talents in the world.

And this fact appears not to have been lost on both Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Telegraaf say it’s “virtually unavoidable” that Sanchez will leave Ajax this summer, while Tottenham are poised to return to the negotiation table on Monday.

It remains to be seen if the North London club has true competition or if rival names have been thrown in merely to ramp up the fee.
