Bristol City need a new striker before the window shuts but can take positives from defeat against Birmingham

Robins take on Brentford tonight at Griffin Park and will be buoyed by a dominant display last time out, despite the result

THIS time last year Bristol City were top of the Championship table, having played two games and taking all six points.

Fast-forward to a year later and the Robins are tenth in the table with just one win and yet the same positivity remains.

The squad continues to look strong and I still stand by my word for a top half finish.

Saturday’s loss against Birmingham would have brought back memories from last season for most fans.

And that would be the old saying of ‘but we were the better team’.

And they were without a doubt as they had countless chances and held most of the possession, Birmingham 29 per cent and Bristol City 61 per cent to be exact.

The Robins not only dominated the game but they looked dangerous and that is a great positive to take into the next game.

Bobby Reid was on fire for pre-season and has continued his superb performances.

One of the main reasons could well be down to manager Lee Johnson changing Reid’s position from central midfielder to centre forward.

This has enabled him to have more attacking freedom and to work higher up the pitch.

Three goals in two games, the move is paying off.

It’s now two weeks until the transfer window closes and fans will still be waiting on at least two more signings, one of them, which needs to be another striker.

Aaron Wilbraham was the latest departure from Ashton Gate after moving to Bolton – a legend and a true leader, he will be very much missed for those last-minute winners.

Defender Aden Flint seems to be an ongoing saga, Birmingham are still rumoured to be interested as they need a replacement but are only willing to pay £2.5million - half the asking price.

Bristol City take on Brentford at Griffin Park in the Championship tonight and both teams will be looking for their next win having suffered defeats at the weekend.
