AC Milan loan Carlos Bacca to Villarreal and pave way for Diego Costa or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join
Colombia international returns to Spanish football on season-long loan deal as Milan prepare to sign big-money replacement
AC MILAN have confirmed the loan of Carlos Bacca to Villarreal, paving the way to potentially sign either Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Diego Costa.
The free-spending Italians have undergone a huge squad overhaul and have signed no less than ten new players this summer.
However, Bacca was regarded as a key player before Milan’s Chinese takeover and his exit indicates that a new striker is on the way to the San Siro.
Sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli confirmed last week that the club are looking at signing either Costa, Aubameyang or Fiorentina’s Nikola Kalinic.
The latter would be the easiest and cheapest to land, with La Viola even possibly open to negotiating an initial loan beforehand.
Chelsea misfit Costa would be an upgrade on Kalinic, with the striker proven at the highest level both in England and Spain.
However, he has his heart set on a stunning return to Atletico Madrid, and the move is already in the works with Deportivo La Coruna ready to take Costa on loan until he can move to the capital in January.
But the number one target is Aubameyang, who joined Milan as a youngster in 2007.

The 28-year-old admits he would love a return to his former stomping ground, although Borussia Dortmund are extremely reluctant to sell.
And Mirabelli previously indicated he would do all in his power to bring Aubameyang home.
He said: “Aubameyang would be fate: he was the first player I went to see live, my first [scouting] trip was for him.
“A new striker? We’re working on it and we can’t mess it up: Kalinic and Diego Costa are also on our list.
“Guarantees? Are [people] aware of what’s been said? If you sign Bonucci and Biglia, you know what you’re doing.”
