Merino replaces banned Jonjo Shelvey in Toon side as Huddersfield make one change for first ever home match in the Premier League
MIKEL MERINO has been handed his first start since joining Newcastle in the Premier League clash with Huddersfield.
Merino, who has been snapped up on a season-long loan deal from Borussia Dortmund, comes into the heart of midfield in Rafa Benitez's side.
He takes the place of the suspended Jonjo Shelvey who was sent off for a stupid stamp in the opening day defeat to Tottenham.
And Jamaal Lascelles regains the captaincy from the disgraced Shelvey as he starts in the centre of the Newcastle defence.
Huddersfield boss David Wagner has made one change from the opening day 3-0 win at Crystal Palace for the club's first ever Premier League match at home.
Rajiv van La Parra has been drafted into the side in place of Kasey Palmer who has dropped down to the bench.
