Arsenal midfielder Savvas Mourgos joins Norwich City in shock summer move as he drops down a league
Attack-minded player failed to make a single senior appearance for Gunners and will be hoping for chances with Canaries
NORWICH CITY have snapped up young Arsenal midfielder Savvas Mourgos.
The Greek youngster joined the Gunners in 2014 but failed to make a single first-team appearance under Arsene Wenger.
Mourgos will now drop down a tier to the Championship and will be hoping he can make a big impression for his new employers.
An Arsenal statement read: “Young midfielder Savvas Mourgos has signed for Norwich City in a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.
“Savvas arrived in north London from Greece in 2014 – after impressing in the Ferroli Cup with his boyhood club Panionios.
“The Greece youth international made five appearances for our under-23s last season, and was a regular for Kwame Ampadu’s under-18s during his time with the club.
“We’d like to thank Savvas for his contribution and to wish him well for the future.”
And for Norwich fans wondering what their new man is like, Arsenal provided the following bio.
It read: “Technically gifted, attack-minded midfielder Savvas was rewarded for his stellar performances for the under-18s with a professional contract in April 2016.
“Last year was the Greek playmaker’s second season in north London, having arrived following a string of impressive displays in the Ferroli Cup.
“While a majority of his appearances came for the under-18s, the playmaker did feature six times for the under-21s and under-19s last season, while also getting the opportunity to train with the senior side on numerous occasions.”
