Barcelona fans in meltdown as Twitter hackers falsely announce signing of ex-Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria
La Liga giants forced to issue statement confirming their social media channels had been breached after Tweet claimed PSG winger had moved to the Nou Camp
BARCELONA suffered an embarrassing night on social media after their hacked Twitter account falsely confirmed the signing of former Real Madrid ace Angel Di Maria.
The Catalans have nearly 12 million followers and they were sent into meltdown on Tuesday after a number of odd posts.
However, the most mischievous of all was the “news” of a new arrival.
With Barcelona still looking to replace Neymar following his £198m move to Paris Saint-Germain, the hackers announced that a deal had been completed to bring PSG ace to the Nou Camp.
Which, of course, was a huge lie.
But it did not take long for supporters of the La Liga giants to realise that something was amiss.
A group called OurMine (Security Group) were the ones behind the hacking.
And they made no secret of their antics in their posts.
The first said: “Let’s get #FCBHack trending on Twitter!”
That was followed by: “Hi FC Barcelona, it’s OurMine (Security Group), please contact us – ourmine.org - > Contact Us, and sorry for the hoax.”
Barcelona were quick to respond and ease the anger of some of those duped by “the signing” of the ex-Madrid Argentinian winger.
They quickly released a statement online to confirm that their social media channel had been breached.
Barca said: “Our accounts have been hacked tonight.
“We’re working to solve the problem as soon as possible.
“Thanks for your patience.”
