Rafa Benitez hints his days at Newcastle may be numbered amid transfer frustrations
Rafa Benitez has suggested his time at Newcastle may come to a premature end due a lack of backing from the board during the transfer window
NEWCASTLE boss Rafa Benitez has suggested that due to a lack of backing from owner Mike Ashley in the transfer window he may be forced to leave the club.
The Spaniard expected a far more productive transfer window and believes his current squad is not ready for the coming season.
Following their promotion from the Championship, Newcastle have started their Premier League return with two defeats.
Despite Benitez being clearly unhappy the club have had no shortage of new additions.
These include, Jacob Murphy, Florian Lejeune, Joselu and Javier Manquillo, Benitez though, expected more.
He said: "We won the Championship and we made £30 million profit. I had a meeting with Mike and I was expecting we could be in a better position than we are now. We are not,"
“We will see if we can improve as much as we can this week. I will try to do my job."
He continued "“Normally, managers talk about projects saying they need four or five years. I’m not talking about that, because you never know in football."
“But when we came here we knew there were some issues and we had to improve things. I am sure we have improved some things. But we need to improve more."
Despite this semingly negative outlook, he is determined to secure the Magpies Premier League position.
He said: “What I want is that we have a football vision and allow the business to also be productive and make a profit, but football has to be a priority.
“Don’t forget, I went to Real Madrid - there was no project - Napoli, Inter, no project.
“In England you can talk about that, when I went to Liverpool we said: ‘In three years we can start challenging for titles'.
“In Europe it is more difficult to do that. Newcastle is a club that has potential and we will try to reach that.”
