Sergio Ramos finally gets his hands on La Liga trophy after Real Madrid presented with the title before Valencia clash

Los Blancos cruised to the Spanish championship last season, but have only just been presented with the trophy

THREE months after winning La Liga, Real Madrid were finally awarded with the trophy before their clash with Valencia.

As the strange Spanish football tradition continues, the winners are made to wait until the start of the next campaign.

After beating Deportivo La Coruna away last week, Los Blancos could finally be presented with the title as they play their first home game of the season at the Bernabeu.

Captain Sergio Ramos showed off the trophy to the adoring fans inside the historic stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo paraded the UEFA Super Cup following the 2-1 victory over Manchester United, while Marcelo proudly held the Spanish Super Cup after their two-legged victory over Barcelona.

Zinedine Zidane's side got off to the dream start as starlet Marco Asensio scored a sumptuous strike from outside the box.

The 21-year-old has been linked with Arsenal - though Guillem Balague has rebuffed claims he is close to joining the Gunners.

However Valencia almost immediately hit back, as Carlos Soler tapped home from close range to silence the home supporters.

Madrid, who have already picked up two trophies already this season, will be competing in the Club World Cup before the end of 2017.

They have recently been drawn against Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur and Apoel Nicosia in the Champions League group stages.
