Roberts is said to have rejected deals from Ligue 1 giants Nice and Premier League side Southampton in choosing Celtic.

The nine-cap England Under-20 international joined Man City from Fulham back in 2015 - after the youngster had made just 19 league appearances for the Londoners.

After just a single league appearance for City, he was shipped off on loan to Celtic on an 18-month deal in the January of 2016.

During his season-and-a-half in the Scottish city, Roberts helped the side to two Scottish Premierships, one Scottish Cup and a League Cup.

All in all, Roberts has played 60 times for the Hoops, scoring 17 times.

Roberts had been part of Man City's pre-season squad but had asked Pep Guardiola to allow him a move back to Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers' assistant at the club, Chris Davies, even said: “There is a home for Patrick here, but ultimately he belongs to another club.
