Hanley has been out of favour with Rafa Benitez for most of his time on Tyneside and is cleared to sort out the move.

Norwich would sign Hanley for a low fee or take him for the season on loan, with Benitez keen to get him off the payroll.

Benitez is keen to offload a number of players to raise funds for some late transfer swoops.

Dutchman Siem de Jong has rejoined Ajax after failing to strike gold in English football.
