NEWCASTLE have received a £15million offer from Championship outfit Fulham for striker Dwight Gayle.

It is believed the striker is available for transfer, though the Cottagers may have to come back with an improved offer with the Magpies looking for around £18m for him.

SunSport recently reported that Gayle could be on his way out of St James' Park as Rafa Benitez wants to raise some funds for new players.

The striker was the club’s leading goalscorer last term in the Championship but has struggled for form at the start of this season.

Gayle scored 23 goals last term but failed to make any impact against Tottenham or Huddersfield in the first two matches of this season.

He was taken off in both matches after struggling to get into the games.

The 26-year-old was left out of Rafa Benitez’s starting XI for the game against West Ham and didn’t even make the bench.

Newcastle went on to smash West Ham 3-0 at St James’ Park as they won their first three points of the season.

Manager Benitez is prepared to sacrifice Gayle, who he bought for £10million from Crystal Palace last summer, after a recent drop in form.

He has already drafted in Stoke's Joselu in a £5million deal and has admitted he is looking for a different type of striker to complement the Spaniard.

Benitez has been forced to rebuild for the Premier League on a budget at a time when other clubs are investing heavily, and is having to free up resources.

Emmanuel Riviere and Siem de Jong have left the club in the last week or so and Grant Hanley could soon join them - to open the door for further incomings.
