MARVIN JOHNSON is having a medical at Middlesbrough ahead of a £3million move from Oxford.
The 26-year-old is set to sign a three-year deal at the Riverside after Boro boss Garry Monk beat Hull to land him.
Hull had an offer turned down for the wideman earlier in the window but Boro have structured a deal worth £2.5million up front and the rest in add-ons.
Monk wants the ex-Motherwell man as a left-back or winger for a Championship promotion bid this season.
He targeted Johnson to add depth to his squad by playing in different positions – and put in a bid that Oxford accepted after insisting they did not want to sell their star man.
Johnson set his sights on a move to the second-tier after his impressive form in League One last season.
He passed the double-figure mark for assists and added six goals to spark interest from Championship teams.
Now he has chosen to join former Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga, England Under-20 frontman Ashley Fletcher from West Ham and ex-Norwich central midfielder Jonny Howson in signing for Monk.

Boro also pounced for £3m Birmingham defender Ryan Shotton earlier today.
Shotton said: “The Premier League is where this club deserves to be and hopefully I can help with that.”
Boro might yet swoop for at least one more signing.
And they battled Fulham for Brentford's Spanish playmaker Jota earlier this week.
