Barcelona wanted Angel Di Maria after Philippe Coutinho blow on deadline day but failed with £36million bid for PSG superstar
Spaniards made last-minute move for Paris Saint-Germain ace after seeing big bids for Coutinho blocked by Liverpool
BARCELONA reportedly failed with a last-gasp bid for Angel Di Maria after missing out on Philippe Coutinho.
ESPN claims Paris Saint-Germain received a bid worth £36million from the Catalans on Friday evening.
But despite looking to raise funds after raiding Barcelona for Neymar in a world-record £198m deal, PSG demanded £55m to let Di Maria go.
And despite offering up to £138m for Liverpool star Coutinho the day before, that figure was apparently deemed too much by Nou Camp chiefs.
The report also claims that Barca made an enquiry for Monaco star Thomas Lemar.
The France international came close to joining Arsenal on Thursday after a £92m bid was accepted by his club.
Liverpool also made numerous offers for Lemar earlier in the week.
But Monaco told Barca they wanted £110m for the France international, who has seen his valuation skyrocket over the summer.
It means Ousmane Dembele is now likely to start in Barca’s front three this season after joining for £135m.
Gerard Deulofeu, Nelson Semedo and Paulinho also arrived at the Nou Camp during a busy window.
But the pressure is now on to perform, with fans already calling for the heads of the board and president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
