The Catalan giants made three bids for the midfielder before the summer transfer window slammed shut.

Jurgen Klopp now faces the task of integrating the 25-year-old back into his first team as he is yet to feature in a competitive match for Liverpool this season.

The Reds had to submit their 25-man squad on Friday, on Spain's transfer deadline day, but Barcelona chose not to make a fourth bid.

Should Coutinho be fit, he will be available for selection for Liverpool's group-stage opener against Sevilla on September 13.

The attacking midfielder was able to ignore the transfer speculation to score in Brazil's win over Ecuador and he could feature in their next match against Colombia.

Also while on international duty, Coutinho and Neymar teamed up to pull off a hilarious prank on their mascot.

Klopp has said he will welcome the midfielder back into his first team.

He said: "We have our situation and Dortmund has another.

"Don't believe everything in the press or that there are offers here and there and that the minute after the offer has been entered, it should already be over.
