WEST HAM missed out on a deadline day deal for former Chelsea star Andre Schurrle.

Sources in Germany have told SunSport the attacker was keen on a return to the Premier League after two years in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund.

A loan deal with an obligation to buy the German international for £26million was proposed to the Hammers, 24 hours before deadline day.

German sources claim the Hammers took their eye off the ball on the final day of the window.

The confusion surrounding a proposed move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho ensued while Schurrle was left in limbo.

Club co-chairman David Sullivan said: “It’s no secret that we made a club record bid for William Carvalho, but unfortunately that offer was rejected.”

The 2014 World Cup winner has failed to make an impact since moving to Dortmund last summer for £18m.

Schurrle, 26, made just eight appearances last season under Thomas Tuchel and is close to a return to action after recovering from thigh injury suffered in a German cup game last month.

Schurrle moved to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013 for £18m and established himself as a fans favourite, before Blues boss Jose Mourinho sold him to Wolfsburg.

Despite his injury absence, Schurrle looks surplus to reqirements at the Westfalenstadion and Bilic could look to revive the deal in January.
