‘Dele Alli could break Neymar’s £198million world transfer record with impressive Champions League and World Cup campaigns’, claim football finance expert
Tottenham man is second to Brazilian on list of most valuable players, according to International Centre for Sports Studies
A FOOTBALL finance expert has claimed Dele Alli could break Neymar's world transfer record next season.
Paris Saint-Germain paid Barcelona a whopping £198million to secure the Brazilian's services this summer.
The Football Observatory at the International Centre for Sports Studies [CIES], which researches footballer's market values, places Alli in second place, just behind Neymar.
When asked if the world transfer record could be broken for a third consecutive summer, head Raffaele Poli claimed: "Potentially it can be broken already next year.
"A player like Dele Alli — if he does well.
"If he does a good domestic league with Tottenham, if he does a good Champions League campaign, if he does a good World Cup with England next year then I wouldn't be surprised if he could be transferred for more than Neymar's price."
Poli insists should that eventuality come to pass, it would not necessarily mean the market has gone crazy.
And he also believes Neymar wasn't the most overpriced transfer in a summer of massive fees.
He added: "That wouldn't be a sign of inflation by itself.
"It depends on how he performs, but Neymar was not the most inflated transfer during the last window.
"There were other transfers like Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele or Benjamin Mendy to Manchester City that were more inflated than the Neymar one."
Harry Kane is just behind Alli on CIES' list.
