Paris Saint-Germain keeper Alphonse Areola eyes Premier League move as Newcastle and Crystal Palace check out the ex-Chelsea target

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has one eye on a surprise move to the  Premier League.

The France Under-21 star knows big-spending PSG have their sights set on a top name.

They chased Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Areola, 24, was close to joining the Spaniards on a short-term deal.

Newcastle and Crystal Palace fancy bringing in Areola on loan - after he was linked with Chelsea for much of the summer.

Blues boss Antonio Conte brought in Manchester City's Willy Cabarello as back-up for Thibaut Courtois but might also want a younger option for the future.

The Magpies, meanwhile, were also in the hunt for a new keeper during the transfer window.

Former-Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina and Udinese's Orestis Karnezis were among the reported targets for Toon boss Rafa Benitez.

Palace, too, have been keen to strengthen between the sticks.

And they had West Ham keeper Adrian on their radar after the Hammers landed Joe Hart on loan for the season.

Areola is curently second-choice for PSG, behind once-capped German international Kevin Trapp.

But ex-Eintracht favourite Trapp might not quite be the superstar stopper PSG want, when they compare him to the rest of their squad.

Neymar's world-record £198million arrival from Barcelona was followed by fellow frontman Kylian Mbappe's loan switch from Monaco, ahead of a £166m permanent move next summer.

And, although the French giants must be wary of financial fair play rules, they want to add more big signings in an attempt to match clubs like Real Madrid and Barca in the Champions League.
