MANCHESTER UNITED fans have vowed to carry on singing their Romelu Lukaku song, despite allegations of racism.

Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out have contacted the Premier League side to urge them to ask fans not to sing a “racist” chant about the striker.

They were made aware of footage emerging after the Champions League win against Basel at Old Trafford last week.

However a section of the Old Trafford faithful have defended themselves, and insist they will only stop singing the song if Lukaku asks them to do so.

The fan group MUFC Songs and Chants who are behind a number of chants in the Old Trafford singing section and at away games, have released a public statement making their position clear.

They said: “This chant is not a negative chant, it’s a stereotype, it doesn’t mean it’s racist.
“Other chants have been sung about players that hasn’t had this reaction, we all know the Park Ji-sung chants.
“The Wayne Rooney chant where we call him the White Pele, are these also racist?”

“Does anyone know how Lukaku feels about this, he clearly hasn’t come out and said he doesn’t like it, we all know the players look at social media so he surely must have seen it.

“If Romelu lukaku comes out and says he doesn’t like it then we all as Manchester United fans should do as he asks and stop singing the chant, but until then keep singing this chant about a hypothetical body part and have fun singing it."

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata instantly distanced himself from a song a section of Chelsea fans were singing aimed at Tottenham and offensive to the Jewish community.

The first test of the United fans defiance will be at Old Trafford when they face Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup tonight, followed by a trip to St Mary’s on Saturday to take on Southampton.
