Tottenham must win something this season to keep Harry Kane interested and away from Manchester United, says former manager Tim Sherwood

TOTTENHAM need to win something this season to keep Harry Kane interested – and away from Manchester United - according to former manager Tim Sherwood.

The ex-Spurs boss gave the England ace his debut – after a couple of underwhelming lower-league loan spells – and he has gone on to become one Europe’s top finishers.

Fans sing about Kane being one of them and the club – from the very top with chairman Daniel Levy – insist he is priceless and will not be sold.

But Sherwood insists another trophy-free season will test Kane’s loyalty to breaking point.

Luckily for Spurs, very few clubs - in terms of finance and stature - are in position to lure their star man away but Sherwood admits their Premier League rivals are in the running.

He told Sky Sports: “There’s only so much loyalty someone can show.

"Tottenham have been a great club for Harry and he’s been paying them back ten-fold.

“He’s been outstanding over the last couple of seasons, he grew up a stone’s throw from the ground and the kid loves the club.

“But that only lasts a certain amount of time.

“Then he starts seeing the pound signs and sees the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid or - dare I say it - Manchester United - and then your head gets turned.”
