Cristiano Ronaldo closing in on new one-year extension to his Real Madrid deal as he wants to earn same as Barcelona rival Lionel Messi
CRISTIANO RONALDO reportedly wants an improved deal with Real Madrid that would net a bumper pay rise and earn as much as Barcelona rival Lionel Messi.
The Portuguese star is currently the highest-earner at the Bernabeu - but he wants greater parity with the king of the Nou Camp.
Ronaldo is pocketing around £19.5million-per-year with the Champions League holders.
But NAIJ are claiming he wants to sign an extension with the La Liga giants and bag himself an extra £7.5m annually.
The 32-year-old is under contract in the Spanish capital until 2021.
However, if he gets his wish for an additional 12 months, then he would be set to earn over £105m in wages.
That would bring Ronaldo, who suffered a defeat at home to Real Betis on his return from suspension last night, in line with Argentine ace Messi.
Barcelona appeared to be under threat of losing their talisman in the summer as he entered the final 12 months of his contract.
But after marrying long-term girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo in his homeland, the 30-year-old agreed to extend his stay with the Catalans.
Manchester City, managed by Messi's former mentor Pep Guardiola, were placed on high alert last month when it emerged that the legend had still not actually penned the paperwork.
Josep Maria Bartomeu, Barca's president, eased supporters fears over his potential exit last week.
The chief confirmed that the forward is already playing under the terms of his five-year deal despite not officially signing the paperwork.
