Manchester United target Raphael Varane pens new five-year Real Madrid deal until 2022

JOSE MOURINHO has been dealt a major blow as Manchester United target Raphael Varane has penned a new five-year deal at Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old has committed his future to Zinedine Zidane‘s side until 2022 to put an end to any speculation regarding his future.

In a brief statement on Los Blancos’ website, they said: “Real Madrid C. F. and Varane have agreed to extend the player’s contract, which will see him remain at the club until 30 June 2022.

“Tomorrow, Thursday, at 2pm, Varane will appear before the media in the press room of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.”

He becomes the latest star to extend his stay with the reigning Champions League winners.

Isco, Marcelo and Dani Carvajal signed lucrative new contracts with Madrid, while youngster Marcos Llorente has also agreed a new deal, with Karim Benzema another Galactico to stay on.

Varane – who joined the club from Lens back in 2011 – has established himself as key member in the starting XI alongside Sergio Ramos in the heart of the defence.

He missed the first three La Liga games of the season with a muscular problem, but has been ever-present since returning from injury.

The French international’s previous deal was due to expire in 2020, but Madrid have acted swiftly to avoid another club luring him away from Spain.

He has made seven appearances for Madrid already this campaign – helping the club to win the UEFA Super Cup as well as the Spanish Super Cup.

Varane is just four matches shy of 200 appearances for Zidane’s side, where he has netted on ten occasions.

was desperate to bring the three-time Champions League winner to Old Trafford, after he brought him to Real from Ligue 1.

Louis Saha recently implored the Red Devils to sign the defender, but Varane will not be leaving Madrid any time soon.
