Ham 'n dregs

West Ham fuming at Tottenham as they may not earn any money from Carabao Cup clash because it ‘costs £300,000 to open Wembley’

WEST HAM are fuming with Tottenham in a cash row ahead of next month’s Carabao Cup clash.

The Hammers are angry at being told they may not earn a penny from the Wembley match which could attract a crowd of around 50,000.

A West Ham source said: “They said we might get nothing from the gate as it costs £300,000 to open Wembley.”

Carabao Cup rules dictate the teams involved are entitled to a 45 per cent share of the proceeds with the rest going to a competition ‘pool’.

Spurs hosted Barnsley in the last round and the Championship side will not get a penny from the 23,926 attendance at the national stadium.

A Spurs spokesman said: “As another club renting a stadium, West Ham are aware and understanding of the costs involved for cup games and the difficulty in any profit being made for such fixtures.”

The volatile London derby in just over three weeks will likely be classed as Category C - with a high risk of crowd trouble given the intense rivalry between both sets of supporters.
Boardroom relations between the clubs have also been historically frosty as they went head-to-head with bids to take over the old Olympic Stadium following the 2012 Games - with West Ham clinching the deal.
