JOSE MOURINHO has confirmed Paul Pogba is a long term injury and refused to put a timescale on his return.

The £89million Frenchman suffered a hamstring tear in the 3-0 Champions League win over Basel two-weeks ago.

The Special One has admitted Pogba's return date up in the air and he could now be out for another six weeks or more.

Mourinho said: "He can't play tomorrow, I don't speak about long-term injuries. I don't have hope for him like with Valencia."

There is concern the injury is worse than first thought could struggle to be back for United's crunch clash with Chelsea on November 5.

The Stamford Bridge showdown is just over five weeks away and would be United's last game before the international fixtures.

And it could mean Pogba returns on November 18 against Newcastle.

It had been feared the midfielder may need surgery and would be out of actions for months rather than weeks.

But Finnish medical outletreport Old Trafford chiefs have made contact with Dr Orava, the surgeon who operated on Barcelona winger Ousamane Dembele’s ruptured tendon.

Orava claims the French international who has enjoyed a great start to the new season, could still recover without going under the knife.

He said: “His injury is a little different to Dembele because he can heal without surgery.

"This kind of problem is usually a sum of many coincidences and is affected by muscle fatigue as well as rapid stopping and quick turning, with the brain going quicker than the feet.

“A decision will be taken next week.”
