Group D table

What do Wales need to do to qualify?

Wales are in second place in Group D, trailing Serbia by four points.

If they wish to secure automatic qualification to Russia 2018, they will need to win both games against Georgia and Republic of Ireland.

Meanwhile, Wales will need Serbia to lose or draw both of their remaining two games - or else they will finish second.

To finish second they will almost certainly have to secure four points from their remaining two matches, as Ireland are virtually assured of beating Moldova.

But even second place does not guarantee Wales a play-off spot.

They are currently the lowest ranked second placed team, which would see them eliminated from the World Cup without playing a play-off.

Rankings of second placed teams are decided with matches against the bottom side in the group disregarded.

Therefore Wales' two wins against Moldova make no difference to their ranking, but sloppy draws against Georgia, Serbia and Austria could do real damage.

Four points should be enough, but Wales will be keeping a close eye on the results of teams like Bosnia, Montenegro, Denmark, Greece, Sweden and Slovakia.

Northern Ireland 13
