Venezuela vs Uruguay: Luis Suarez meets supporters in Caracas ahead of crunch World Cup qualifier

A win in Venezuela will guarantee Uruguay place at World Cup

LUIS SUAREZ took time out of his World Cup qualifying preparations to meet fans in Caracas.

A win in Venezuela's capital will guarantee Suarez and Co a place at Russia 2018.

Uruguay are currently second in Conmebol qualifying, four points clear of sixth-placed Chile.

Brazil have already qualified as the first of four South American sides that can net automatic progression to the World Cup.

Oscar Tabarez's side are ten points back from the Samba nation.

But another three points against Venezuela would maintain their four point-gap over Chile and ensure one of Argentina and Peru cannot catch them.

Those two countries are three points behind Uruguay but both face each other tomorrow night.

And that means that one of them will not be able to catch the second-placed side.

The atmosphere is sure to be bouncing at the Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo in Caracas tomorrow night.

That will be a stark contrast from that which Suarez last played in.

Barcelona hosted Las Palmas on Sunday at an empty Nou Camp due to policing concerns.

The Catalan independence referendum left forces stretched on a day of violence in Barcelona.

A tearful Gerard Pique admitted it was the worst day of his career.

And Suarez ripped his shirt in frustration after missing a chance.
