PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN are still hoping to recruit Alexis Sanchez on a free next summer - and will be happy to sacrifice Edinson Cavani to do so.

The Arsenal forward is out of contract at the end of the season and is free to talk to rival clubs as of January 2018.

According to , his arrival could lead to Cavani's departure next summer.

PSG have been working on a deal for Sanchez since last summer, but they decided to focus their efforts on a blockbuster move for Kylian Mbappe, to back-up their incredible world record swoop for Neymar.

And the Brazilian had a rift with Uruguayan team-mate Cavani a few weeks ago, when the pair argued who should take set pieces.

Despite spending obscene amounts of money on £195million Neymar and deferring a £180m fee for Mbappe till next summer, PSG are keen to recoup some funds for Cavani.

The former Napoli striker will be 31 in February and has bagged 11 goals in all competitions for PSG so far this season.

After the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United on a free in 2016, Cavani was given free reign to run the front line.

But last season was a huge disappointment for PSG, who were shockingly knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona in the most remarkable second-leg comeback in the competition's history.

And they were then beaten to the Ligue 1 title by Mbappe and Monaco, who scored almost at will as they romped to the title.

PSG signed Cavani from Napoli for £55m in 2013 and would hope to recoup much of that fee, therefore balancing their books ahead of any Financial Fair Play penalties.

Either way the move should show that the French capital club are thinking hard about FFP with a Uefa investigation into their dealing still on-going.
