Tottenham news: Josh Onomah reveals all as Spurs ace describes his wonder goal for England U21s against the Auld Enemy
JOSH ONOMAH has admitted a moment of panic led to his stunning strike against Scotland.
The Tottenham starlet broke the deadlock for England Under-21s in their Euro qualifier in thumping fashion on Friday.
Onomah, currently on-loan at Championship side Aston Villa, controlled a clearance with his chest before unleashing a spectacular half-volley into the top corner.
And after the Three Lions’ 3-1 victory over the Auld Enemy at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium, he exclusively spoke to SunSport to describe his wonder goal.
The 20-year-old said:“I was just lucky I struck it well. I didn’t know it was going in and I thought I had hit it too high.
“But then I saw it dropping and when it hit the net it took me by surprise, which you could probably see in the celebration.”
“When I chested it I thought I hadn’t done it far enough and panicked.
“So then I had to really concentrate on my technique and luckily I struck it well.
He continued: “I’m just so happy that it went in as those shots only hit the net one out of ten times.
“It’s always an honour to play for England but to score a goal like that in front of my family is a proud moment for me.”
England’s victory over the Scots took them into top spot in the group with seven points from their opening three matches.
Onomah and his team-mates now head to Andorra on Tuesday aiming to take yet another step towards Italy 2019.
