FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION officials are set to beg Borussia Dortmund chiefs to allow Jadon Sancho to stay with England at the Under-17s World Cup.

The former Manchester City teenager has been a shining light for the Young Lions at the showpiece in India.

After scoring twice in the opening 4-0 win over Chile, he scored his third of the tournament from the penalty spot in the 3-2 victory over Mexico on Wednesday.

That result fired England into the knockout stages with a game to spare - but now they face a big problem.

Sancho was only allowed to attend the tournament on the proviso that he would return to the Bundesliga giants after the group stage and joined up with the squad later than his team-mates in Kolkota.

However, FA and England bigwigs are now now trying to persuade Dortmund bosses to change their stance and let the 17-year-old stay to hopefully fire them to World Cup glory.

But technical director Dan Ashworth and U17s boss Steve Cooper face a tough task after the Germans finally received Sancho's playing registration at the end of last month.

He was handed Ousmane Dembele's No.7 upon his arrival in Dortmund and was told he would be part of their first-team set-up.

And following the paperwork clearance issues being solved, he was an unused sub during the recent 2-1 win over Augsburg that moved his side five points clear at the top of the table.

England face Iraq on Saturday in their final group clash.

They need just a point to assure a first-place finish.

But they are likely to rest Sancho in the hope that can help them to win over Dortmund's top brass.
