E20, who own the stadium were prepared to change the colour from green to blue, as it fit into the London Stadium branding, reports the .

They also wanted to ensure any colour change would not affect future bookings.

But this was rejected by the Hammers, who wanted to opt for a claret colour that fits in with its own image.

They also felt that the navy blue colour put forward is too closely associated with fierce city rivals Tottenham.

Manager Slaven Bilic has constantly asked for the colour of the outside astroturf to be changed as he believes it can confuse his players.

The Mail reports that West Ham have even offered to pay the £200,000 to replace the current set-up, but won't do that if the colour is blue.

But obviously in the last few days boss Bilic has more pressing things to deal with - notably trying to keep his job.

SunSport reported earlier today how West Ham are lining up Hoffenheim boss Julian Nagelsmann to replace under-fire Slaven Bilic.

Friday night's disastrous 3-0 home defeat to Brighton looked to be the final nail in the coffin for Bilic.

But he survived after a meeting with the club's owners on Saturday - although this weekend's clash away at Crystal Palace is set to be crucial.
