KIERAN TIERNEY has signed a new six-year Celtic contract despite interest from Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal.

The Scotland left-back, 20, has been tipped for super-stardom by Hoops chief Brendan Rodgers and has admitted he is uncertain where his future lies ultimately.

But for now the childhood Celtic fan has backed up his regular words - that he is happy to stay with the SPL champions for a long time - by extending his current deal.

Kierney, a first-time regular since 2015, has also played in the centre of defence at international level.

And he hit the opener in a 3-0 with for leaders Celtic as they won 3-0 at nearest challengers Aberdeen last Wednesday.

New interim Scotland boss Malky Mackay has also named Tierney in his first squad, for the friendly against Holland at Pittodrie on November 9.

In fact, Kierney's international debut, aged 18 against Denmark, made his Scotland's youngest starter since Willie Henderson in 1963.

And Rodgers took just one training session after arriving as Celtic manager in May 2016 to offer Tierney a better contract.

The former Liverpool chief was then reported in the   as saying: "I saw in the first two days I was in charge that Kieran Tierney will be a top player,

"I can tell you that I know from my experience of working in England in the middle section and at the top end of the league, that this kid will be a top player. For sure. Absolutely 100 per cent he will be."

Tierney himself revealed that his friends were "winding me up" by sending him screenshots of storing linking him to Premier League big guns.

But he said then - and has repeated since - that he is happy to stay at Celtic Park for a long time yet.

And now he has proved it by signing until 2023.
