NORTHERN IRELAND are on the verge of a first World Cup appearance since 1986 as they host Switzerland in the first-leg of their play-off tie.
Michael O'Neill's men defied the odds to finish second in Group C behind world champions Germany and edge out the likes of Czech Republic and Norway.
But they face a Swiss side who were the best of the second placed teams in qualifying.
From their ten games, they recorded nine wins and just one defeat - against group winners Portugal in their final match in Lisbon.
