Police in Halle, 10 miles south of Dortmund, seized a 42-year-old that night.

The arrest came after a group of teenagers reported a man had threatened them with an axe.

German media reported the visibly drunken man had first used the chopper to rip rubbish sacks apart.

Then he apparently got involved in an argument with the youngsters around 11pm.
