Luis Suarez tried to keep Neymar at Barcelona with Lionel Messi and insists Nou Camp is best place for PSG star
Ligue 1 champions spent £198million luring the Brazilian away from Spain and he has lit up division with goals galore
LUIS SUAREZ tried to convince Neymar to snub PSG’s world-record offer and stay at Barcelona with Lionel Messi.
The trio formed MSN – one of the most incredible frontlines ever seen in world football – and terrorised La Liga defenders.
But the Ligue 1 side coughed up £198million for the Brazilian in the summer and the threesome was torn apart.
When Spanish paper Sport asked the ex-Liverpool man how the transfer played out, he said: “He asked for more than advice, Messi and I tried to do what would benefit the team.
“But we never said ‘Don’t go because you won’t be happy.’
“We said we didn’t want him to go, but that he was free to do what he wanted, because of the friendship we have.
“It was painful that he left.
“We miss Ney a lot on the pitch, but more off it, because he was special.”
SADIO FIT Liverpool star Sadio Mane to be accompanied by club physio for Senegal matches
According to reports in France, Neymar is already bored with the standard of the French league and is more concerned with staying fit and fresh for the upcoming World Cup.
There has also been a public row with Edinson Cavani over penalty-taking duties for the Paris side.
And Suarez has insisted that Catalonia and the Nou Camp is the best place for the Brazilian superstar to be.
He said: “We had a lot of fun. He transmits happiness and joy all of the time. He was important for us.
“He’s playing for another team now but I don’t hold it against him, the opposite.
“I tried to convince him to stay because I think here’s the best place for him, but it’s a decision he had to take.”
