COLOMBIA star Edwin Cardona may be staring square in the face of a Fifa ban after making an alleged racist gesture during his country's loss against South Korea.

During the 2-1 win for the hosts - with Tottenham star Son Heung-min scoring twice - Cardona kicked-up a potential storm.

As players from both teams pushed and shoved following an incident early in the second-half, the Colombian appeared to make a "squinting-eyes"; gesture.

During the ruck, Cardona can be seen squaring-up to a South Korean player in the background, before grabbing the sides of his eyes with his fingers.

While Cardona could now face a world of trouble from football's governing body, Colombia boss Jose Pekerman refused to be drawn into speaking about the incident.

When grilled on the potential racism storm, Pekerman said: "I didn't see that gesture and I cannot comment on that.

"It was a physical game. Things happen during a game like this.

"I can't comment further on an incident that I didn't see with my own eyes."

Colombian media outlet Gol Carcaol have made light of the "funny and mischievous" incident... but it wasn't taken even remotely in the same spirit in Asia.

One social media user angrily snapped: "This b**** is racist in South Korea today.

Another wrote: "Colombia’s Edwin Cardona expressing his idiocy with a racist gesture during the game against Korea."

In the game itself, Son scored in the 11th-minute of the game to give his side the lead before doubling the tally on the hour-mark.

Colombian defender Cristian Zapata halved the deficit on 76-minutes but were unable to find the all-important equaliser in Suwon.
