STUTTGART star Christian Gentner is set for a shock return just TWO MONTHS after doctor saved his life on the pitch.
The club captain was left with horrific facial injuries and concussion after he was struck in the face by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels’ knee during a Bundesliga clash.
And now Gentner, 32, is due for a remarkable comeback against on Friday.
He fractured his eye socket, nose and upper jaw when he collided with Casteels while challenging for the ball back in September.
Gentner needed two operations to repair the damage to his face, but has been training with a protective mask and is in line for a call-up to face Dortmund.
Stuttgart coach Hannes Wolf told German press agency DPA: "We have a few more training sessions, but if everything goes well until then, he could play.
"He has trained a lot and worked with the team, not just on his own, and has also headed the ball.

"There would be no reason to delay it."
Gentner, who made five appearances for Germany in 2009 and 2010, says he would be comfortable playing with the mask.

"It doesn't affect me, I have got used to it," he told Kicker.
The ex-German international has recovered quicker than expected and his return would provide a timely boost to his side.
Stuttgart are stuck in mid-table and will be up against it when they face the Bundesliga’s third-placed team.
