Rangers manager latest news: Ex-Chelsea No2 Ray Wilkins reveals his interest in becoming Rangers boss
RAY WILKINS has revealed he wants to become the next manager of Glasgow Rangers.
The Scottish giants are still searching for a new boss after sacking Pedro Caixinho five weeks ago.
Wilkins, who became a firm favourite with the Ibrox faithful during his two seasons with the Gers in the 1980s, says he "despises" what is currently going on at his old club.
He has pleaded with the Rangers board to ensure that the next appointment is someone who knows the traditions of the 54-time league champions.
And he says a host of qualified options are ready and available to step into the hotseat - including himself.
Speaking to , the 61-year-old ex-QPR boss and former Chelsea No2 said: "They have to get an ex-Ranger.
"They have to have somebody at the helm that knows what this club means, not only to them personally but to the people of Glasgow as well.
"This is an institution. This isn't a football club. This is a huge global institution.

"You have Alex McLeish, Ian Durrant, Barry Ferguson, Terry Butcher, Ally McCoist out there.
"These guys have seen it and done it and want to do it again - myself included."

Wilkins has huge experience within the coaching world after numerous spells working in the Premier League with the likes of the Stamford Bridge Blues, Aston Villa and Fulham.
And he wants to use that knowledge to help Rangers overtake bitter rivals Celtic at the summit of Scotland's top-flight.
He said: "I'm in the frame. I'd love to be able to help a wonderful football club get back on its feet.
"I'm 61 years of age. I have experienced some of the finest times of my life at Ibrox with some of the finest people I have met in football.
"These things have to come back to the people that are playing at the moment.
