Hull appoint former Southampton and Reading manager Nigel Adkins as their new boss
Former boss Leonid Slutsky was sacked with Hull sitting 20th in the Championship
HULL CITY have appointed Nigel Adkins as their new manager.
The former Southampton, Reading and Sheffield United boss takes over from Leonid Slutsky, who was sacked at the weekend with the club sitting 20th in the Championship.
Adkins, 52, has been out of management for 18 months - he left the Blades in May 2016 after only managing to take the club to 11th in League One, their lowest position since 1983.
The club confirmed on their website that Adkins will take training on Thursday morning and will be in charge of the side for Saturday's game against Brentford.
Slutsky had arrived at the club this summer with high expectations, having won three Russian titles and been in charge of the Russian national team.
But Hull struggled and managed only four wins in his tenure.

Hull are winless in seven and have just seven points in their last nine matches.
Adkins led Southampton to consecutive promotions in 2011 and 2012, taking the Saints from League One to the Premier League.
But he was given only six months in the top flight, with Southampton sacking Adkins in January and replacing him with Mauricio Pochettino.
At Reading, Pochettino was employed for 18 months but was sacked after finishing ten points off the play-off places.
Slutsky could get an early return to football - at Chelsea.
