TOTTENHAM are competing with Torino for PSV Eindhoven wing sensation Steven Bergwijn.

The 20-year-old academy product has helped his Dutch club go eight points clear at the top of the Eredivisie.

The Holland Under-21 international's form has alerted Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is said to be considering an offer next month.

Italians Torino had a £9million bid for Bergwijn rejected in August, but they are still on the Amsterdam-born player's trail.

West Ham and Bournemouth have also shown interest in the former Ajax youngster, who has scored two goals in 15 games this season.

But should Tottenham follow up their interest with a concrete bid they are likely to be a far greater attraction to the young player.

Bergwijn is under contract with PSV until 2021 but to his frustration he is the only member of coach Philip Cocu's first team who is not guaranteed a starting role - with ex-Newcastle flop Luuk de Jong competing for his place.

Rated the star pupil of PSV's academy, he broke into their senior side three years ago.

A right winger by trade, he can also operate on the left or as a central striker.

He has dual Surinamese nationality through his parents, but has played for Holland at all age levels from Under-17 upwards - scoring 21 goals in 41 internationals.

Pochettino has been slowly building his squad at Tottenham but is aware the dual demands of the Premier League and Europe expose a lack of numbers.

Chairman Daniel Levy has backed Pochettino with money in the past, but with the club's new ground under construction there is not as much cash in the post as usual in January.

The bigger likelihood is that PSV will insist on keeping hold of Bergwijn until the end of the season, when they would have a better chance of finding a replacement for him.
