BBC commentator Alan Green apologises after making ‘childminder’ joke about Rebekah Vardy during Leicester’s loss to Crystal Palace
Twitter goes wild after veteran BBC commentator said Jamie Vardy 'has got his childminder back from the jungle'
ALAN GREEN issued an on-air apology for a remark made about Jamie Vardy's wife Rebekah.
The BBC 5 Live commentator was covering what turned out to be Leicester City's 3-0 home loss to Crystal Palace.
Along the way the 65-year-old veteran of the mike said Vardy 'has got his childminder back from the jungle'.
It was a reference to Rebekah's recent appearance on the reality television show I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.
Green sparked a social media backlash as listeners tok to Twitter to suggest Green's remarks were sexist and unnecessary.
And he tried to undo the damage by saying sorry.

"By the way I think some people on social media took offence at what I was saying about Jamie Vardy and his wife Rebekah Vardy in relation to I'm a Celebrity," he said.
"I certainly didn't mean any offence so I apologise to you if you felt that any was meant.

"I was just trying to reflect the fact that I love the programme and really enjoyed Rebekah's part in it and the other jungle celebrities. It's a heck of a show."
Vardy responded on Twitter, saying Green's comment was "pathetic" and that "they must be desperate for more listeners" in response.
Elsewhere, Women in Football asked: "What century are we in?"
Jez Wyke tweeted: "Alan Green there, making it worse and not apologising at all.
"You weren’t trying to “reflect that you love the show” you were making a sexist “joke” about a man’s wife being a “childminder”.
