Andriy Yarmolenko pulled one back with 13 minutes remaining, but it was ultimately not enough.

Bayern came racing out of the blocks and Dortmund fans must have been fearing another Der Klassiker hammering as their side look unable to cope.

After dominating the opening exchanges the opening goal eventually arrived on 12 minutes.

Robert Lewandowski's header from James Rodriguez's free-kick was well saved by Roman Burki.

But the rebound fell to Boateng, who expertly guided his header home.

Bayern continued to press and Dortmund boss Peter Stoger had to make an early tactical change when he brought off Marc Bartra for Mahmoud Dahoud on 34 minutes.

However, just six minutes later, the Bundesliga leades extended their lead in elegant fashion.

Lewandowski expertly laid the ball off for Muller who waited for Burki to close him down and dinked it over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Dortmund were much improved in the second half and the earlier substitution began taking effect.

And, on 77 minutes, drew level through Yarmolenko's far post header.

The goal saw Bayern camped in their own half — and Dortmund youngster Alexander Isak almost nicked an equaliser in stoppage time.
