HARRY KANE hit a sensational hat-trick to smash Alan Shearer's long-standing calendar-year goal record and Lionel Messi's current streak.
The header, tap-in and second-half dink took him three ahead of Shearer's 1995 haul of 36 and two ahead of Messi this season.
Dele Alli and Son Heung-min also grabbed second-half goals for Mauricio Pochettino's home side.
And sorry Saints managed consolation strikes from Sofiane Boufal and Dusan Tadic - but the day and match ball belonged to the Spurs and England goal machine.
Kane needed just 22 minutes to beat Shearer's milestone by leaping highest in the Southampton box to nod home a Christian Eriksen free-kick.
And 17 minutes later he overtook Messi's haul while the Barca star enjoys a winter break. Son did all the hard work before Kane tapped in.
Dele Alli curled home a long-range effort four minutes after the break to resume the rout.

Kane put his incredible haul down to advances in sports science and the quality of his team-mates who are now owed a dinner.
He told Sky Sports: "This year recovery and getting ready has been good, eating right, ice baths.
"I feel sharp and at my best and hopefully I can continue that.
"My team-mates are fantastic players and it is a pleasure to play in the side when we have everyone running forward and playing one-twos and linking up.
"I told the lads before the game to set me up and they did so I will probably have to take out for dinner or something."
Kane could not even pick his favourite finish of the year – because there have been so many.
And he admitted he is struggling to find the place to keep all of his match balls from the hat-tricks he has hit so far.
He said: “My favourite Premier League goal is the maybe second against Huddersfield, outside the box with left foot or the third against Burnley or the third one here today.
“They are all in a cupboard at the minute but I will have to get a few glass boxes."
