ARSENAL striker Stephy Mavididi is set to cut short his loan spell at Preston North End and is poised to return to Charlton.
The 19-year-old has failed to hold down a starting spot with the Championship side, and is expected to complete a move back to the Addicks in the coming days.
Mavididi was left out of the Lilywhites' squad in their 3-2 defeat against Middlesbrough on New Year's Day, and is due to link up with Karl Robinson's men until the end of the season.
According to the , talks were ongoing between the Gunners and Charlton on Tuesday, with the ex-MK Dons boss revealing his side are close to announcing a signing.
He said of the potential new recruit: "He is a good player — proven at this level. He will excite people.
"He is a semi-striker in some ways. He can play up there, behind the striker or wide.
"He can play three different positions. We need strikers - that is obvious."
Charlton are in desperate need for a new forward after Leon Best picked up a knee injury during the 2-1 loss against Gillingham on Monday.

Mavididi has featured in just 11 games in all competitions this season, and has started a mere three times in the Championship this term.
He moved to the Valley in the last winter transfer, impressive in his five outings before a serious hamstring injury ended his loan spell at the end of February.
