Gary Rowett to snub Stoke City and sign new deal with Derby

Rowett was high on Stoke City list to repalce Mark Hughes who was sacked after humiliating FA Cup loss at Coventry on Saturday

DERBY boss Gary Rowett is set to snub Stoke City and sign new deal at Pride Park.

Rowett, 43, was high on the Premier League side's wanted list as they look to replace Mark Hughes who was dismissed on Saturday after loisng to League Two side Coventry City in the FA Cup.

The former Birmingham City boss has enhanced his reputation this season by taking the Rams to second in the Championship behind runaway leaders Wolves.

The East Midlands club have been adamant Rowett is going nowhere and would not welcome any approach from Stoke for their manager.

Rowett, who is settled in the Derby area is set to be rewarded for his work this term with a lucrative long-term deal and tasked with taking the club back to the Premier League for the first time since they were relegated in 2008.

Rowett spent three years as a player at Pride Park and replaced Steve McCLaren as manager last March.

And in his first full season at the helm has transformed results with just two defeats in the last 19 Championship games.

The Potters could now turn thier full attention to Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill.

O'Neill verbally agreed a two-year contract to remain as Republic of Ireland boss in October but has yet to sign the contract, possibly paving the way for an approach from the Premier League side.
