Mesut Ozil injury: Arsene Wenger confirms that Arsenal star has seen a specialist over a knee problem
German has been carrying the problem for a fortnight and missed Arsenal's draw at West Brom on New Year's Eve
ARSENE WENGER has confirmed that Mesut Ozil has seen a specialist over his knee injury.
Ozil has carried the problem for a fortnight and missed Arsenal's draw at West Brom on New Year's Eve.
He returned for the 2-2 draw with Chelsea on January 3, despite Wenger admitting that Ozil was a doubt for the game.
The German then trained ahead of the Gunners' FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.
But Wenger says Ozil, 29, has now been forced to see a specialist amid fears that the injury is worse than first feared.
Ahead of the EFL Cup semi-final at Chelsea, Wenger said: "He is recovering from his knee problem.
"He has seen a specialist today, we hope it will be short term.
"He came in yesterday and couldn’t practice. We hope for Sunday."
Ozil is out of contract at the end of the season and Wenger is hopeful that he will be able to persuade him to stay.
