Neville, 40, had constructive talks with FA Technical director Dan Ashworth and would be responsible for qualification for the 2019 World Cup finals in France.

And he gave a clear indication of interest in the job by following a string of Twitter account.

They included the likes of Laura Bassett, Fran Kirby, Casey Stoney and more.

He also followed official accounts of the Lionesses, the US national team and Manchester City Women.
