FRANK DE BOER helped Holland win the snow World Cup - as he recovers from his frosty spell as Crystal Palace boss.

The former Ajax and Milan chief added ice-caps to his 112-game international career and saw hosts Switzerland freeze in the final of the unorthodox event.

The Dutch beat the Swiss 7-2 in sub-zero temperatures as players donned protective clothing and special footwear for the eighth IceSnowFootball event in ski resort Arosa.

Even FIFA's Twitter account recognised the event - although they only labelled it as an "unofficial" World Cup.

Holland's triumph might be a tiny consolation for De Boer, 47, who joined Palace last June but was sacked after they failed to notch a point or a goal in their first four Premier League games this season.

Also taking part were were Switzerland's 1994 World Cup star Stephane Chapuisat and former Middlesbrough midfielder Gaizka Mendieta, part of Spain's 2002 World Cup squad.

Those two were joined by Brazilian Cacau, now a naturalised German, as part of an international team.

Meanwhile, not even the presence of two World Cup winners, Guido Buchwald and Thomas Bertold, could help Germany reach the final.
