Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho toasts new deal and signing of Alexis Sanchez as he claims other clubs are jealous

The Special One came up with a special analogy to show how club's like City are just annoyed they could not afford the Chilean

JOSE MOURINHO signed a new deal at Manchester United as he accused rivals City of sour grapes.

City claimed they turned their back on a move for Alexis Sanchez because of his wage demands — while neighbours United will pay the striker £505,000 a week.

And boss Mourinho said: “When you see the tree with amazing oranges at the top and cannot get there, you say ‘Oh, I got the lower ones because I don’t like the ones at the top’.

“You like the ones at the top. They are so nice, so orange, so round, so full of juice.

“But you cannot get there so you say ‘I don’t want to gothere’ or ‘I didn’t like it, I prefer the other ones’. It reminds me of that story.”

Mourinho yesterday signed a new deal to keep him at United for another 3½ years.

He has signed a one-year extension on his current three-year contract, which had 18 months to run, with the option for a further year.

It is understood there will have been a small increase on his basic wage from his current £250,000 a week to around £275,000 a week but with a much bigger incentive package written into it for success.

It is the £505,000 a week that Sanchez is earning at United which has been the big talking point this week.

City claimed they pulled out of a deal because the Chilean hitman’s wage demands were too high.

Mourinho says that is nonsense given that the player would have been worth between £100-150million in the transfer market if his contract had not been running out at Arsenal.

United got Sanchez in a straight swap with Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

And Mourinho declared: “I know that if other clubs did not get him it’s not a problem of money.

“You go and analyse the numbers and Manchester City spent more money than us, Chelsea spent more money than us, I think even Everton spent more money than us.

“You have to put things in perspective. How much would Alexis Sanchez cost in a normal transfer, as a player with two or three years of contract? I would say roughly £100-150m.

“So put things in perspective — you go to the numbers the club didn’t pay on the transfer.

“I cannot say it was expensive because it wasn’t and if you add all the values of his contract, it’s not cheap.

“But I think it’s a very good deal for us and the player has a fantastic contract. It’s a contract according to his qualities and the situation — no transfer fee.”

Sanchez is in the squad for tonight’s FA Cup fourth-round clash at Yeovil.
