Frank Lampard rejects Oxford United job as Chelsea legend reveals managerial plans for the future
Former England midfielder is studying for his coaching badges but admits the Oxford job does not interest him
CHELSEA legend Frank Lampard has ruled himself out of the running for the Oxford United job.
The former England star was strongly tipped to replace Pep Clotet and the Kassam Stadium this month.
Lampard is yet to take up a staff role since retiring after spells with Manchester City and MLS side New York City.
But although he is studying hard for his coaching badges, Lampard admits the Oxford United job just isn’t right for him.
Lampard told TalkSport: “I spoke to Dave Jones, who works at Sky and is on the board at Oxford, in the summer about the job and that is as far as it went.
“There wasn’t in it what has come out this week.
“Certainly I’m working on my badges now and it’s my intention (to become a manager) if the right thing comes along.
“I don’t know what the route will be – there are plenty of different routes to become a top manager and I am working there now to get towards that.

“You can’t just step out of something and think you can become a manager, you have to practise a lot.
“Thankfully, Chelsea and the academy are helping me get my hours in and I am watching training at certain Premier League clubs and studying as much as I can so down the line (if the right job comes), I hope so.”
